CentraCom Cares: Giving Back in Eureka, Utah

CentraCom Eureka Service Project

Every year, CentraCom picks one city in our service area to lend a helping hand—and this year, it was Eureka, Utah. Nestled in Juab County, this small but remarkable community was our destination for a day of giving back.

Eureka’s roots run deep in Utah’s mining legacy. It once served as the financial hub of the Tintic Mining District, one of the state’s richest gold and silver regions in its heyday. The town was home to vital institutions, thriving businesses, and even the second-ever JCPenney store, then known as the Golden Rule Store. Here’s a fascinating fact: the gold used in the ornate “Gold Room” (also called the State Reception Room) in the Utah State Capitol came from Eureka’s Mammoth Mine. The mine’s owners donated that gold to help furnish the Capitol’s elegant, gold-leaf–adorned space.

Times have changed since those boomtown days. Today, Eureka is a historic community of just over 650 residents. With limited resources and manpower, some projects remain on the wish list longer than hoped. When CentraCom’s Community Development Director, Faylyn Warnick, met with the Eureka City Council to ask how we could help, Councilman Travis Haynes suggested the city cemetery. It needed a major cleanup, but the scope of the work was so large that no one knew where to start.

On Wednesday, September 4th, more than 40 dedicated CentraCom employees came together at the cemetery. With heavy equipment loaned by Travis’ dad, a dump trailer, and plenty of elbow grease, the team cleared brush, weeds, and debris. By the end of the day, the site was transformed—tidy, accessible, and renewed.

Why do we do this?

CentraCom began in Fairview, Utah, and while we’ve grown into a leading fiber provider in the state, we’ve never forgotten where we came from. We live and work in the communities we serve, including small towns like Eureka. That’s why these projects are personal. Our employees are neighbors and friends, and giving back strengthens those ties and makes all of us stronger.

Supporting the local business.

After the work was done, the crew headed to B’s Hangout, one of the few remaining business establishments in Eureka. We quickly realized this local spot serves one of the best burgers you could ask for. If you’re ever in town, trust us—the drive is worth it. It’s a step back in time paired with the unforgettable taste of a B’s Signature burger.

CentraCom Cares Initiative

The cleanup in Eureka is a powerful example of what can happen when people come together with a shared purpose. What once felt overwhelming to face alone became possible with teamwork, commitment, and care. We are grateful to the City of Eureka for welcoming us and trusting us with such a meaningful project. The people of Eureka once left their mark on Utah’s story. CentraCom is proud to honor that spirit by serving today. We invite others to join us in creating your own legacy of care story this September in time for the National Day of Service.

At CentraCom, we believe that strong communities make for a stronger future. We love our customers, our towns, and the chance to give back. CentraCom Connecting Communities.
